When playing a card which requires you to discard an additional card, can you discard a card from in play in front of you?

I saw an entry on another thread in which the poster opined that you cannot discard cards from the cards in play in front of you. Is this the official ruling?

I think, you only can discard card in your hand. None card in front you.

I was right. Discarded card must be only from hand.

from DC rules:

"The “discard another card” symbol
Some of the cards show this new symbol, followed by an equal sign and other
symbols. In order to have the effect(s) shown after the equal sign, you must
discard this card along with any other card of your choice from your hand"

In Munchkin you can discard cards from in front of you. That's what I was thinking of.
