Discard pile - face up of face down

Hello!

When you discard cards do you put them face up or face down? If face down is there any tricks on how to distinguish draw pile and discard pile? My friends tend to take cards from the wrong pile often

I think it depends on your past experience. In russian game "Durak" (Fool) discard pile cards are put face down. In Preferans all the played cards are put face down as well. So it isn't that obvious I would say.

it seems it's not that obvious indeed

actually it would be better to specify it in the rules

in any case Bang! works 'face up'
