Robber's Roost and Death Mesa Unofficial Expansions

Postby martinpulido » 29 Jan 2011, 02:13

I have finally created a website showing the new cards to my upcoming Robber's Roost and Death Mesa expansions. In Robber's Roost, I introduce orange-bordered cards, cards that can never be played on your own turn, but rather at or during specific events on other players' turns as described on each orange-bordered card. The orange-bordered cards are meant to improve teamwork, speed up the game, and allow you to do things while waiting for your turn (at least giving you something to do during a long term in Jail). Check out the page discussing Robber's Roost and orange-bordered cards at http://bangcardgame.blogspot.com/p/robb ... nsion.html

Less of a comprehensive expansion than Robber's Roost, Death Mesa provides a fun way of keeping dead players in the game. While they lose their character abilities and no longer draw from the normal deck, they still participate by drawing and playing cards from the Dead Men's Deck. Check out the unofficial Death Mesa expansion at http://bangcardgame.blogspot.com/p/deat ... nsion.html

Feel free to comment and critique on the cards and expansions.

I have added all of the characters to the Robber's Roost site and also introduced 15 new ones for your consideration. Characters in the past have been modified to be more balanced or more useful. Check it out at http://bangcardgame.blogspot.com/p/robbers-roost-expansion.html

I drew most of the characters, although many of my drawings were based on the art of others. I redrew many to have more of a BANG! comic-like feel, and that cross-hatch effect that is in many of the cards until the likes of Wild West Show. A few of the drawings (probably around 8 ) are the work of others. I am glad you like their abilities. I know that some of them are not quite right yet. I try to balance the characters so that they are not clearly better than others, which is actually why I really dislike the WWS characters. Most are just better than the vanilla game characters, which I think is not a clever way of adding characters in an expansion. Anyway, thanks for the review.

I comment you characters:

Silver Heels Be award, half cards are royal.
Sly Fox Magua I like it.
Sten Wade It is similar to my friend character and one we tested with Emiliano.
Ted Raddigan Nice ability.Best usage is at start of sheriff turn.
Wild Bill Hickman Cool good chracter.
Josey Bassett Nice idea with phase 3.
Loan Arranger
Moll Cutpurse[b] Nice thief.
[b]Myra Hindely.
Good surviver.
Pearl Heart Nice character little similar to my Samuel Prize(Each time another player draws any number cards out his phase 1, Samuel draws 1 card too).
Flint Dixon Nice ability too. Good to finish player with last point.
Grue Duck Strong funny character.
Bob Hornsdorf. Good to teamwork, little same as Pixie Pete in game of 2 players
Job Musgrov Noraml character
Bert Alvord. Another John Pain but without card limit.
Crazy Bull == similiar to Emiliano character Jugde Dread from Broot Hill.

I add later character comment later. I did yet teste them, I am busy at moment. Great work with them. A few silimarity, I can find with another characters but is is OK, because there are little space and sometimes it can heppentto meet or near test of abilities.

Thanks for the criticism on some of my characters. Some of your notes on spot on. While royals are not 50% of BANG! cards (I think it is in the high 30s), it still may be too high. This ability can still be adjusted by limiting it to Queen, King, and Ace (or less) to make it more balanced. Bert Alvord is actually not a John Pain, as he does not draw the card "drawn!" and his ability is limited to royal cards, not any card (given the below 6-card limit for John Pain).

Similarities between custom characters is bound to occur as people think about the game (Pearl Heart and Samuel Prize, for instance) and its dynamics. I find this to be positive that 2+ people find a character ability to be a good idea--it probably should be added to the game then.

Lastly, let me add that the Death Mesa Guidebook is now available just before the full release, which gives instructions, card by card explanations, production/printing methods, and a card identification sheet. Go to https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid= ... y=CL-w69ML

Now I have added information and examples of "calamity cards" that can be played on other players to weaken them on their next turn (or the whole round).
